Maine Sex Offender Registries

The Maine Sex Offender Registry is maintained by the Department of Public Safety and the Maine State Police. The Maine Sex Offender Registry Web Site is designed to promote public awareness of registered sex offenders living in the state. The registry does not contain information on all individuals in the state who have been convicted of a sex crime, but information for those who are required to register pursuant to Maine law. Registration is also limited to those who were sentenced for a requisite offense on or after January 1, 1982.

A person that has been deemed a sex offender or sexually violent predator must register. The Maine Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act of 1999 applies to persons who have been sentenced as sex offenders or sexually violent predators on or after June 30, 1992.

A sex offender is defined as:

Adult convicted of a sex offense
Juvenile convicted as an adult of a sex offense

Sexually violent predators are individuals who have been convicted of:

Sexually violent offense
Sex offense when the offender has been convicted of a sex offense previously or an attempt to commit an offense.

Juveniles who have been convicted as adults of sex offenses or sexually violent offenses may have to require.

The information that must be supplied include:

Name and aliases used
Date of birth
Sex
Race
Height and weight
Eye color
mailing address
Home address or expected domicile
Place of employment
College or school attended including address and location.
Offense history
Notation of any treatment received for mental and personality disorders
Photograph
Set of fingerprints
Offenses for which the person was convicted
Date of conviction
Sentence imposed
Other information that is deemed important by the state registry
