The following people are required to register as offenders in Kansas:

Sex offenders
Violent offenders
Sexually violent predators
Any person who was convicted of the following on or after July 1, 1993:
- Kidnapping (other than parent)
- Aggravated kidnapping
- Criminal restraint
Any person convicted of the following if the victim was under 18:
- Adultery
- Criminal sodomy
- Promoting prostitution
- Patronizing a prostitute
- Lewd or lascivious conduct
- Unlawful sexual relations
Any person who is required to be registered under another state's sex offender law.
A person who has been convicted of an offense in effect prior to July 1, 1993 and is comparable to the above offenses.
A person who was convicted of an attempt, conspiracy or criminal solicitation of the offenses listed above.

A sex offender is described as an individual who was convicted of a sexually violent crime on or after July 1, 1993.

A violent offender is described as person who was convicted on or after of July 1, 1993 of any of the following:

Capital murder
Murder in the first degree
Murder in the second degree
Voluntary manslaughter
Involuntary manslaughter

A sexually violent crime is defined as committing one of the following:

Rape
Indecent liberties with a minor
Aggravated indecent liberties with a minor
Criminal sodomy
Indecent solicitation of a minor
Aggravated indecent solicitation of a minor
Sexual exploitation of a minor
Sexual battery
Aggravated sexual battery
Aggravated incest
