| The Iowa Sex Offender Registry became law on July 1, 1995. The law requires that individuals who have been convicted of or adjudicated of a criminal offense against a minor, a sexually violent crime, sexual exploitation or was on probation, parole, work release status or was incarcerated are required to register. The Registry may not include individuals who have a deferred sentence or deferred judgments. The Registry may include convictions from other jurisdiction if that individual has moved to the state. The purpose of the registry is to provide the public a means to protect themselves from offenders who may be likely to recommit such offenses in the future. | ||||||
