All sex offenders in the state of Hawaii are required to register.  A sex offender in Hawaii is any person who has been convicted of a sexually violent offense or a criminal offense against a minor victim.  Or, any person who has been charged with a sexually violent offense or a criminal offense against a minor as well as those who have been acquitted due to a physical or mental disease.

Any person who is in charge of a jail, prison, hospital, school or other institution in which a sex offenders has been committed must enroll and obtain all required information from the individual before release.  Judges must also obtain the necessary information from the individual before releasing them on bail, parole, or probation.  If a sex offender has been released from incarceration, they have three days after their arrival in the county where they will reside or expects to be present for a period of exceeding 10 days to register in person with the county chief of police having jurisdiction in that area.

Required information includes:

• Name and aliases or names they have been known by
• Date of birth
• Social security number
• Sex
• Race
• Height and weight
• Hair and eye color
• Legal address and telephone as well as mailing address or temporary address.  If address is temporary, the offender must provide a time period that they can be reached at that location.
• Names and legal addresses of known future employers and starting and end dates of such employment.
• Names and legal addresses of current and known future educational institutions.
• Year, make, model, color and license plate number of all vehicles the individual owns or operates.
• Summary of criminal offenses against minor victims and sexually violent offenses they have been convicted of. 
• Statement indicating whether or not they are receiving treatment for a medical condition.
• Statement indicating if the person is a U.S. citizen
• Additional identifying information.

Registration is a lifetime requirement for sex offenders.
