Alabama provides a sex offender registry to assist in informing the general public of sex offenders that are living and working in the state.  This registry, combined with the Community Information Center, is intended to promote public awareness concerning the potential threat that a sex offender, other violent offender or fugitive may present to the citizens of Alabama.  The Alabama Department of Public Safety provides this information to the public in accordance to the requirements that have been set by the Alabama Community Notification Act. 

The Alabama Sex Offender Registry and the Community Information Center is updated on a regular basis, but the public should be aware that the site may not reflect all of the current residence information regarding offenders and that there are absconded offenders who are not in compliance with the act.

Any adult sex offender who lives in the state of Alabama, even if convicted in another state, is required to register.  In Alabama, a sex offender is any person who has been convicted of a criminal sexual offense.  A criminal sexual offense in Alabama is any act of sexual perversion involving a person of the same or opposite sex, sexual abuse of a person of the same or opposite sex, or any attempt to commit sexual perversion or sexual abuse.  Specifically these offenses include:

• Rape in the first or second degree
• Sodomy in the first or second degree
• Sexual misconduct
• Sexual torture
• Sexual abuse
• Enticing a minor into any facility or vehicle for immoral purposes.
• Indecent exposure
• Promoting prostitution in the first or second degree
• Obscenity
• Alabama Child Pornography Act violations
• Kidnapping a minor, except in the case of parental kidnappings.
• Soliciting a minor over the Internet for the purpose of committing a sexual act.
• Transmitting obscene material over the Internet to minors.
• Incest, when the offender is an adult and the victim is a minor.
• Attempt to commit any of the offenses above
• An offense committed in an location, whether in any state, federal, military, Indian or foreign country, where the offense would violate Alabama law.
